[edit] TV COUPONS: Evil waste
This is an ill-advised, wasteful, ultimately evil program. By law, the functionality of these boxes is limited. As a result, many millions of these subsidized, crippled boxes will be bought, and then discarded in a few years because they are so crummy. And everyone who wants a better product with a longer service life will have a harder time finding such and have to pay more for them, because the market for good products will be destroyed by the flood of cheap crippled boxes.
It is particularly evil that VGA outputs are prohibited, since the world is full of VGA monitors that would not only allow viewing a better-quality low-resolution picture, but also allow viewing a higher-resolution picture. Big high-resolution VGA monitors are being discarded, that could be used for high-resolution HDTV with more functional converter boxes. -69.87.199.100 (talk) 15:50, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

- The purpose of these boxes is to KEEP ANALOG TELEVISIONS OUT OF LANDFILLS, not to hand out free boxes to rich people with shiny-new flat screen DTVs. These boxes were purposefully crippled to output only NTSC signals, thereby discouraging their use by those who already own digital televisions (i.e. you). The coupons are intended to help the poor or elderly (i.e. not you). That is not evil; that is helping those who are short on cash to keep their NTSC TVs operational. ---- Theaveng (talk) 16:43, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
