[edit] Singular they
The plural of the "singular they" is "they", just as the plural of the singular "you" is "you". However I'm not going to get into a debate about its usage, since that would go nowhere. Suffice it to say that purists disagree with using it, but many others consider it acceptable. Hence WP:GNL does not prescribe against it, and does offer it as a method to achieve gender neutral language. For this reason there's no need to change the text, to what I believe is an inferior version, which is why I'm reverting. -- DatRoot 20:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- The plural of you is ye. Both of those nouns keep count, whereas your version loses information. The referend is a person, not a bunch of persons. -lysdexia 01:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- "The plural of you is ye" — Now I know not to take you seriously. You've already made it clear that you object to using the singular they. Wikipedia's Manual of Style does not. -- DatRoot 21:39, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Clarity comes before guideline. -lysdexia 21:43, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
