[edit] Viv Richards

Look, you clearly do not understand wikipedia's style guidelines when it comes to writing biographies. Regarding this edits, using terms like "incredible eye, tremendous reflexes" and other fan site tone, you are not maintaining a neutral point of view. Wikipedia is not a fan site or blog, it is a neutral, factual collection of evidence. "bears testimony to his supreme genius, confidence and eye-hand co-ordination" is not a neutral statement. You can quote a reliable third party source (say David Gower talking about Viv) if he says something like that, but to actively go out and include such comments by actively selecting sources which say such things and do themselves have their own agenda is not good researching. There are plenty of help pages that tell users how they can write to a good standard, I'm sure you know where they are.

And in the mean time, please stop edit warring. Thank you SGGH speak! 06:39, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My observations

Okay, here is what my own viewpoint is.

  • Firstly, I have kept all the things about 1st, 3rd etc. greatest Test/ODI batsman, that all appears to be cited correctly. I have removed some of the other content for the following reason.
  1. It's too much detail for the lead
  2. Some of the sources (like Amazon.com?) are not reputable cricket sources, and "legends of tv cricket" seems a bit iffy.
  • In the personality section, when it says "many often call him a devastating batsman" if devasting is the actual word they use, then perhaps place it in "" marks to make that clear, or if not, then directly quote them.
  • With your references there are a couple of style points.
  1. You don't need to place a space between each one
  2. They need to go after the punctuation, not before
  3. Ideally they need titles and retrieval dates. i.e. [www.google.com Google] retrieved June 10, 2008 rather than www.google.com or [www.google.com].

That's all the issues at the moment, I don't see many more issues with your additions at the moment, you have toned down the idol-worship enough for my own satisfaction. Blyguyen hasn't got back to me yet explaining his own issues, but for now, your contributions on the whole seem solid.

I appreciate your willingness to discuss and negotiate a plan. Regards, SGGH speak! 15:22, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

As for Tendulkar, the statements about his achievements are also cited, it is possible for a collection of reputable sources to agree on different "greatest batsmen of all time". I personally rate Ricky Ponting very highly! :) SGGH speak! 15:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Well I disagree personally with having them in the lead, but would support them in the main body of the article somewhere, feel free to add them, just remember the referencing things I mentioned above, and try to assume good faith with Blyguyen, he is one of the most respected contributors here, and I for one rate him very highly, so I wouldn't accuse him of not knowing his stuff. [edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Image:Signature_icon.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 16:02, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I have already asked that you put citations in correctly like I outlined above, using retrieval dates, titles and less spaces. If you don't do it someone else will just have to come along and clean it up. It is a courtesy, particularly because I have already down you how to do it. Thanks SGGH speak! 11:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
If you see this page you will see, I'm talking about the edits on June 11, (today). Just please keep that referencing technique in mind. Also, what about Geoffrey Boycott? He was a good player. Oh, and remember to sign your posts with ~~~~ too :) SGGH speak! 15:22, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
