In response to your question on the AfD debate, I expected that nomination to be somewhat controversial, more so than most of my nominations, which are pretty obvious deletions. Personally, I really don't see the point to that list; it's unencyclopedic to list every translation of anything, and Harry Potter shouldn't be an exception just because it's popular among certain editors. I certainly wouldn't want a similar list to exist for every movie and book that we have a page for. I actually feel that this encyclopedia can be improved a lot by editing things down: it's a very hard thing to do, merging articles together and removing factual information that isn't all that important. But I know from experience that's what separates good writing from bad writing.
Again, welcome! And like Evilphoenix says, why not get yourself a user name and make yourself official? You seem worth having around. :) Mangojuice 05:52, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks. Yeah, I am an expansionist, and believe that if something happened, it is worth having around. Anything true to me is encyclopediotic. And I have a name, I just never really use it...68.192.25.106 23:20, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
We have a new policy being built at WP:MEME.--Urthogie 16:24, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- One thing you should consider is that policy isn't voted on though. It's all by discussion.--Urthogie 18:18, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mediation
I think we need somebody to mediate between us on this issue. Thoughts? Steve block The wikipedian meme 09:57, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I think I see where the problem is. You think UGOPlayer should look like Newsgrounds, and I think Newsgrounds should look like UGOPlayer. Steve block The wikipedian meme 09:59, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, per my note, I worked out where the problem lies, so I'm not really looking at mediation now. Sorry, I should have made that a bit clearer, I'm not trying to muck you about. I'd just rather go back to editing wikipedia, I feel all talked out on the issue right now. As you can see I've not reverted your last edit, it'll sort itself out one way or another eventually. [edit] This seems unfair to me
I missed this when you posted it, and since it calls my behaviour into question I feel I really have to respond.
I had written: The two external links I refer to are in the section Submitting work. They are advertising and must be removed. Advertising is against po;icy, and is considered vandalism, repeatedly adding it will lay someone subject to the guidance given to administrators at WP:VANDAL. I have already rewritten the hosting section once, which you reverted without discussing here. I am now going to rewrite, and having already given my reasons, I would hope you won't revert but will discuss the rewrite and any changes you may wish to make in the spirit of good faith under which wikipedia operates. You wrote: I am seriously not surprised that in the midst of a debate, you threaten administrative action because I am not on your side. Thus, anything that I think is supposed to be in here, even if it is tenuous on whether it is advertising or not, is then considered vandalising the article, and will have me under administrative review. That being said, I will take that under consideration. To that section, all that needs to be done is removing the links, not removing the entire article and replacing it with this stub of an article. I am asking you to not use you administrative power as a power over other editors involved in dispute with you, but over things you are neutral in. 68.192.25.106 01:03, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- I apologise if you took my words as a threat. I would hope you will accept I have never used my admin powers in this dispute, and never would. I would bring anything I thought contravened policies to the attention of other admins through the appropriate channels. Since you object to me stating the vandalism policy, I would also ask you to explain how any user is supposed to inform another that their actions can be considered vandalism. - Thanks for the advice. I hope you accept that I have never used my admin powers in this dispute. Steve block The wikipedian meme 21:31, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
