You must be really excited about those webquests... Instead of duplicating content across all of those pages, why not create a new article at The Da Vinci Code WebQuests and link to it from the other articles. This way it would be easier to update. --Charlie(@CIRL | talk) 09:58, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks but someone locked that page - read the discussion page - you'll probably be the first mod to bother reading it and thus avoid whats happening now.

OH I see what you've done.. good idea :) thanks, wasn't sure how to create an entirely new page.

[edit] No Problem

Would you help me go through and replace the content with a link to the new page? that would be awesome.

The beauty of wikipedia is all you have to do to create a new page is put brackets around a phrase and click the formed link. It's a real elegant piece of software. You should also consider creating an account if you'd like to stick around and help with the cause. (you can even put a blurb about yourself on your talk page located at User:YourUserName (for example mine's at User:Charlie Huggard)).

if you have questions, feel free to ask me at my talk page User talk:Charlie Huggard. (Or here as I'm watching this page) --Charlie(@CIRL | talk) 10:10, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks again Charlie - you're the only MOD who has actually come up with an intelligent solution for a 'war' that has been going on for a while. I'm off to university right now but on my return will certainly go through and amend as many links as I can locate. Thanks again.

[edit] Not quite a mod

I'm actually not quite a mod (yet anyways)... I run a site based on MediaWiki myself so I've gotten pretty familiar with some good practices. Thanks for the compliment though :).

Also another hint. To make links to other wikipedia articles do Article Name or if you want the link to display differently than the article name you can do Display Name. Editing help on MetaWikipedia is a good place to learn about the wiki syntax. --Charlie(@CIRL | talk) 10:23, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Sweet, thanks :) I've bookmarked this page for later. You should be a MOD here - you're by far the most helpful person I've come across - the only other really helpful MOD I've spoken with has since 'resigned' through frustration with some of the others here. Sad really.

One article I cannot edit at present, possibly you can? As a suggestion, replacement I've placed on another page is here. Cheers.

[edit] A more concise method

Instead of the text you're adding why not add a ==See Also== section if it doesn't exist already and add a bulletpoint with the link like this: *The Da Vinci Code Webquests ? In this fashion you minimize the text someone wanting to read the article has to go through, and someone interested in the webquests would be able to easily see and dive into that information? By minimizing duplication in the articles, we also make things better for people trying to use wikipedia in rural areas where they don't have broadband yet (my girlfriend is one of them, and it hacks her off to no end when she has to wait forever for a page to load :) )

On the page that's protected, let me read the discussion first, and I'll make the change then. --Charlie(@CIRL | talk) 10:53, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Also when you're on talk pages (not article pages), it's a good idea to sign your comments with --~~~~ which will then convert to your signature and the current date/time. It helps people who are trying to follow along with discussions.

[edit] While I'm thinking about it... Welcome!!!

Welcome!

Hello, 67.101.134.76, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  <- It's the standard welcome template, but it does have some good info in it. I will say I do highly recommend signing up for an account too! --Charlie(@CIRL | talk) 11:40, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Suspected Sockpuppet

Note that both 67.101.134.76 and 67.100.48.189 opened their accounts on May 11 and 10 respectively, and their only contributions have been to insert the Da Vinci Webquest info and external links to the site. After 67.100.48.189 was blocked for spamming numerous articles with the Webquest details (see contributions), this new account was 67.101.134.476 was opened to continue spamming Wikipedia with those details. The users have similar writing styles; both refer to Wikipedia administrators as mods, with emphasis on the capitalization of "MOD" on various talk page comments: (67.100.48.189 talk page comments 67.101.134.76 talk page comments) --Madchester 16:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

That much is obvious. He is simply sucking up to users who show the slightest inclination of allowing his fancruft links to stay. He has also WP:ATTACK'ed User:Rodgerbales on other people's talk pages. See this diff for an example. He has also attacked Rodgerbales on User:Gwernol's talk page. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 23:37, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Amazing Race 9

Please do not add commercial links (or links to your own private websites) to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. See the welcome page to learn more. Thanks. --Madchester 16:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply about da vinci code

Erm...look who's talking! At least Rodgerbales had the decency to _ask_ me why i removed his link and pointed out other links that were in the same vein. Since I removed his link, I thought it fair to remove others' links as well, which I have. You, however, wasted an entire HOUR of my time and obviously have no respect for WP:3RR, WP:CIVIL, WP:BITE, WP:ATTACK, or WP:MoS. I would like to request that you STOP adding self-promoting links to Wikipedia. Please note that continued vandalism of Wikipedia will result in our contacting your ISP. Thanks. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 00:03, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
