[edit] Re: Carolina Shoe

I'm concerned that there may be a misunderstanding of the intent of this project. We are an encyclopedia, and not a directory of companies. Keywords are meaningless in the context of an encyclopedia. The article has been assigned by me to a category appropriate for the company.

Also, Wikipedia usually frowns on individuals and/or companies from producing articles about themselves. Frequently, such articles are deleted shortly after creation, as if the company is notable somebody who is not associated with the company will eventually create an article on the company. This more readily allows for a neutral point of view than an article created by a representative of the company who is inherently biased. I have not deleted the article on the company in this case, given there is some assertion of notability (being a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. --Durin 16:24, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Durin, Thank you for your information. Our corporate office asked each Marketing Manager in their divisions to learn about the site and get our company information posted. We took the time to look at other footwear brands and how they were represented. I wrote the copy and wanted to keep it historical and clinical. I understand that this is not an advertising site, but an encyclopedia. Thank you for clarifying for us. I will pass this information on to my designer. All the divisions that we are working on submitting (Double-H Boots, Carolina Shoe, Browning Footwear and Acme Boots) are all divisions of H.H. Brown, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. I will make sure that keywords are removed. We noticed that keywords were used on other sites like Adidas. Thanks, Steve —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.246.69.37 (talkcontribs)

  • Steve, I just reviewed the Adidas article and there are no keywords. There are category assignments. In the case of Carolina Shoe I have added the appropriate category. There may be others, but I am not aware of them at this time. I have concerns about articles for every subdivision of the company being added. Frequently, unless each division is significantly notable in its own right, we tend to merge such content in a single article, such as H.H. Brown Shoe Group. I recommend that rather than creating articles for each subdivision of the company, that an article about H.H. Brown Shoe Group be created first, and then if there is sufficient notability for subdivisions that articles then be created for them. Not all subdivisions of notable companies merit their own article. To this end, the content from Carolina Shoe should be merged into H.H. Brown Shoe Group, and Carolina Shoe be turned into a redirect to H.H. Brown Shoe Group.
