Thanks for experimenting with Wikipedia. The links you added to the page Cigarette have been removed. Please do not add commercial links—or links to your own private websites—to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links. See the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. --AbsolutDan (talk) 02:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello - in response to your message on my talk page, the primary reason I removed the link was because it was "spammed bare" - it was added to more than one article with no additional content, and the link doesn't serve as a citation. Wikipedia is aiming for a print version, so we need more content here, not more external links.
- On the other hand, I have heard of "whyquit", and it does seem to be a fairly decent resource for helping people to quit smoking. Instead of just adding the link to the article, try posting a message to one of the article's talk pages, describing the link and asking for other editors' opinions on adding it to the article itself. If a concensus is reached, feel free to then add it to the page. Rinse and repeat for other articles if desired. Since Wikipedia is experiencing a major problem with spam (due in part to its growing popularity), posting links on the talk pages first help ensure that it doesn't get weeded out later as spam.
- For guidelines on spam and External links, check out WP:EL and WP:SPAM. If you have any further concerns or questions, feel free to drop me another line on my talk page --AbsolutDan (talk) 16:22, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
