You were quite right, that highly POV self-promoting statement didn't belong there. However, I should point out that you should feel free to delete statements (because we want to keep self-references to a minimum, for example) if they are against Wikipedia policy. You don't need to just strike it through and ask someone else to delete it. Better yet, if you like editing Wikipedia, why not create an account? Welcome!
