596 was the code name for China's first nuclear test, conducted in 1964.

Rationale: Image was produced by the August I film studio, the official Chinese film producer, sometime during the 1960s. Image is used to identify the 596 nuclear test for educational, non-profit purposes.

This image was produced by the government of the People's Republic of China. It is unknown what its copyright status is in this regard; it is assumed to be copyrighted, and its use on the English Wikipedia is under the "fair use" clause of U.S. copyright law.

This image represents an educational image which is useful in the history of the Chinese nuclear programme, much like the image located here, and thus it would also degrade the article in its absence as there would be no pictures in the Nuclear part of the PLA article as there is no replacement.
