[edit] History
The company, originally incorporated as Vectorlink was founded in 1996 by Roderick "Rod" Fan, an industry expert in the development of GPS technology. The initial business centered on the development of GPS chips. Company engineers combined early prototypes together with a CDPD radio to allow tracking of vehicles over the Internet. This service, called Vtrack, attracted the attention of high profile venture capitalist including Peter Thomas of IVP and Stuart Philips of USVP who invested a total of $10M in 1998. The new board brought in interim CEO Rick Rasmussen to oversee the transition from GPS chipsets to Mobile Resource Management services. He was replaced in June 1999 by Krish Panu from Atmel, who renamed the company @Road and has been CEO since. [1]. The company went public on NASDAQ under the symbol ARDI in September 2000, raising a total of $63M. [2]. In February of 2007, @Road Inc, was purchased by Trimble Inc. Under the new ownership, @Road will still retain its name and operate in the same manner.
