[edit] Division casualites in Iraq
Does somebody knows how many 4th Infantry Division soldiers were killed in Iraq ?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.161.27.52 (talk • contribs) 01:26, 19 September 2004.
OIF 1 took the lives of 80 Ironhorse Soldiers and 1 civilian. All 81 names are embedded on plaques surrounding the 4ID OIF Memorial near the 4ID Division Museum. OIF 05-07 took a greater toll. 227 Ironhorse Soldiers lost their lives to protect a free Iraq. SGT B 17:11 17 April 2007
[edit] Moved
THis was moved from the page:
- I served with the 3Bn, 12th Infantry, 4th ID in Vietnam, `69-70, and served in the USAR until 1996. This is the first time in almost 40 years I have run across the 4th Infantry Division referred to as "Flower Power Fourth," which just sounds inventively hokey and juvenile. - Unfortunately, that was a phrase that was occasioned by the Drug years in Nam, and - thankfully - has faded from memory - mostly.

I never heard it for the VERY short time I was attached to 4ID, but I'm talking a matter of days, so I wouldn't expect to. Swatjester 19:00, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
I was in 4ID for over 8 years from 1998-2007 and NEVER heard it called that. SGT B 16:52 17 April 2007
[edit] Initial deployment to Vietnam
Are there any people here who were with the 4th when it first deployed to Vietnam? I heard from an ex-Marine that subsequently joined the Army (who was also in Vietnam at the time), said that when the 4th deployed to Vietnam, somebody in supply had screwed up big-time, as they arrived in country with nothing but blanks, and they had to stay in the rear for almost two months before they received their full supply of real ammo. A funny anecdote if true and verifiable, but of course THAT won't be recorded on any official Army site. :^) wbfergus 20:42, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 2006 deployment to Iraq
Does anyone have good information from 2006 deployment to Iraq? I was there in 2005, so all I know is that 4th ID replaced 3rd ID in Baghdad. Parsecboy 02:03, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I was in the Div HQ in Baghdad from Dec 2005-Nov 2006. What information are you looking for? SGT B 16:55 17 April 2007
- Primarily a summary of the deployment; what BCTs controlled what areas/cities, the two BCTs that were task-org'd to 101st, and important operations carried out by 4th ID units during the deployment, and hopefully a source or two to support it all. Thanks for your help. Parsecboy 22:46, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fires Brigade also include 1-21 FA?
I see on this page at Ft. Hood also lists the 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery as part of the Fires Brigade. Any reason it is not listed on the Units list here? --Petercorless 13:34, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
4th Infantry Division is currently going though some major re-orginzation. As soon as the units assigments are settled, I will update. 24.162.107.197 03:03, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fiasco
Just to say that there is no mention in the article of the very heavy criticisms levelled at the counter-insurgency operations conducted by the 4th ID, 2003-4 in Iraq under the command of Odierno, documented e.g. in Thomas Ricks book Fiasco: the American Military Adventure in Iraq (2006). See especially pages 232-234 of the latter. Colin4C 20:03, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- If you've got the sources, and I assume you do, if you're quoting Ricks' book, then go ahead and be bold and add the controversy. If you want help with phrasing, copyediting, or anything else, I'll be happy to help. Parsecboy 20:36, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

- In the context of the whole article I am actually in two minds about it. Maybe compared to the 4th ID helping to win WW1 and WW2, the Iraq unpleasantness 2003-4 is fairly trivial. And maybe it is the commander Odierno who deserves the flak rather than the men. Colin4C 21:19, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
