The 4th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Army was raised on 1 Aug 1961, being the first of the parachute battalions that were raised in the early 1960s as part of the expansion of the Indian Army and was recently (2003) converted to a special force unit along with the remaining 4 para units that were still not a special force.
It has contributed to the Sri-Lanka peace keeping force in the 80's.The Battalion has the distinction of completing the siachen Glacier tenure without suffering a single casualty on account of weather or enemy action.The battle honour of the battalion is sadiqia earned during the 1971 war.
