He buys the notebooks (NBs) with his milk money (MM), and writes to his mother. The notebooks eventually end up lost, but his girlfriend finds all of them and she reads them. He writes in code similar to leetspeak. For example, 543 is SHE and 1M1SSU is I miss you and K177 is Kill.
