I have reverted your anonymous edit to General Motors once again, because still no source has been yet provided supporting that GM had a $529 Million profit in 2006, despite requests for a citation. Should a more reliable or accurate source than the SEC become available, or if you have some way of showing that a number that appears nowhere in the annual report (not even under 'net income') is in fact the actual net income, I would be more than happy to cede the point. Until that time, the loss of 1.978 billion would appear to be correct.--Scottr76 03:22, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
The new source I have gotten this data from is the GM media site. www.media.gm.com A second quarter profit of 1.4 billion is well documented.
- Perhaps so, but there are several problems with this:
- 1. you did not provide a source on the page itself. see Wikipedia:Citing sources
- 2. even here on your own talk page, you did not provide a complete link, and instead left the reader to search.
- 3. The only source i see there states 'preliminary', for one, and only the adjusted net income is 1.4 billion. From what I can see, other companies' articles appear to use net income, not adjusted net income.
- 4. Look at the SEC Filing, you will see that GM had a net income of $891 million for the second quarter, and for the first half of 2007, $953 million.
- 5. When compared to the same information for other companies (for example, Ford, General Electric, Home Depot), the most recent annual fiscal year is what is used, not the most recent quarter, making this inconsistent with the rest of Wikipedia.
Therefore, I once again will revert to the previous edit, until such time as the 2007 numbers are released.-- Scottr76 04:46, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
If you are going to continue to edit facts that the financial community has long ago accepted then so be it. I highly doubt that GM corp is going to lie about its finances to Wall Street. Adjusted or not, those are the correct numbers. Please cease this nonsense. ZS
- I provided a link to the SEC filing for the annual report, easily a better source than any press release stating 'preliminary' numbers, which you failed to even cite in the article. And the annual net income is consistent with other corporations' articles, including all of the companies that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
- I certainly hope GM doesn't lie about its finances, particularly to the SEC, as the livelihood of my family and the economy of the city I live in has depended on the company for the past 99 years. I don't have it out for GM or anything, I just want to see consistency throughout Wikipedia, and using a different standard for them benefits nobody.--Scottr76 02:17, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
