Archive Let me get something straight here: this page is an archive. Basically, it's the Wikipedia equivalent of shoving old emails into a folder and forgetting about them.

If you're thinking of dropping me a line regarding what I insist on calling "my greatness", do so on my current talk pagenot here.

Thank'ee much,

Welcome

Hello 21655/January 2008 and before, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Y0u (Y0ur talk page) (Y0ur contributions) 19:07, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

Um, thanks Y0u.

But now what do I do. I'll go take a little gander around here and see if there's somethin' I can do to help out.

The 900

Yep, that was me. I started the "900" article and didn't forget to tag it as a stub.

Userboxes

Please stop creating new userboxes in template space. That era is long over. --Cyde Weys 19:42, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

I would suggest not worrying about userboxes and actually helping to write the encyclopedia. Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia, it's not free webspace. Userpages are a privilege afforded to people editing the encyclopedia. Looking over your contribs all I've seen you do is work on userboxes and your userpage. That isn't what Wikipedia is about. --Cyde Weys 19:45, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Fine. Thanks. I will continue to use WP, but not as a user anymore. --RageSamurai 19:55, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

You're perfectly welcome to help write the encyclopedia, which is what this project exists for. --Cyde Weys 19:56, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Adoption

I see you wish to be adopted, I am an experienced editor with 1700 edits and have been at Wikipedia for over 6 months, if you wish to be adopted replace the 'I want to be adopted' box with {{adoptee|Blacksmith}} and drop a line at my talk page.Blacksmith talk 05:53, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Re:Adoption Request

Reading your user page, you seem like an intelligent person [blushes], and so I would like to request for adoption. RageSamurai21655 19:22, 7 September 2007 (UTC) PS: I've always had some sort of passion for music as well, but alas, I have yet to become a known talent...oh well. Just saying. EDIT: How the heck did this get into the RFA box? Moved it to a higher section to clear confusion. RageSamurai21655 19:23, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, how are you?
Yes, I'm fine for adoption. How would you like to start? Do you have any questions at the moment?
That's really cool that you have a passion for music as well- I honestly couldn't live without it! What sort of things do you listen to?
Cheers- CattleGirl talk 07:55, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
I...have no idea. Let's start from the beginning, but omit the easy stuff.
Hair metal, hard rock, the like. Namely Disturbed, Godsmack, and Korn. You? RageSamurai21655 21:09, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi,
That's fine- is there any subjects you're interested in? Because the best thing you can do is to jump right in and start editing articles that interest you- for instance, it could be a music related article.
Other things that might interest you is the behind-the-scenes work we can do- for instance, WP:AFD, WP:AIV, WP:TFD. AFD and TFD are deletion debates, and AIV is where you report continuos vandals, and all of those pages can always do with another contributor.
Probably the best way this is going to work is if you edit, and I offer you hints as you go along- you'll learn more that way.
I'm into a lot of alternative stuff, myself... but I've recently gotten into metal, so AFI, Parkway Drive, MCR, Bullet For My Valentine... are all fantastic. CattleGirl talk 03:54, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Subjects. Hmmm!
Well, I have always held an interest in Nintendo, Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy, and Billy & Mandy. Combating vandals would be great too, since I have something of a hatred for people who use the Internet to do stupid stuff.
And I can't stand bad grammar either. Copy-editing articles is fine with me too.
PS: Alternative is never something I've enjoyed since my favorite radio station started playing that stuff. I guess it's just not my thing. No offense. RageSamurai21655 18:09, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
EDIT: Forgot Naruto--probably one of the best anime shows ever to grace the TV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 21655 (talkcontribs) 18:12, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, I've found nothing to edit. I think. You got any ideas?
Or have you seen any articles that seem like they were written by a fourth-grader and as such need my near-impeccable grammar?
Okay, sorry, too much bragging.
RageSamurai21655 16:50, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
 :D
Well, there's plenty of articles that need a lot of work (grammar or otherwise :) ) than can be found by doing a couple of clicks on 'random article'.
If you want to combat vandalism, I'd suggest that first you'd have a look at WP:VANDALISM, and then have a look at some of the vandalism reversion tools that Lupin has made. They're linked from his userpage.
Otherwise, any of the pages you mentioned in your last reply, or perhaps you can have a look at backlogs.
Cheers- CattleGirl talk 07:59, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Well? How'm I doin'?

Been around, made edits here and there, requesting new orders... RageSamurai21655 16:36, 20 October 2007 (UTC) PS: I can never seem to remember to uncheck the "Minor edit" checkbox. Maybe if it was unchecked by default or something?

Yeah, you're going pretty well! Just remember to fill in an edit summary :)
Minor edits- when you go into your preferences, and click on the "editing" tab, there's a lot of boxes there. Perhaps you have the "mark all edits minor by default" box checked? That's all I can think of.
 :) Cheers- CattleGirl talk 10:14, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Yep, that was the problem...
Edit summary, got it. You'd be surprised how much effort Wikipedia puts into helping its users get a foothold on editing. :) RageSamurai21655 14:18, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Yee-ha! I'm on a vandalism-squashin' roll! It makes me wonder why I've never been to Lupin's page much earlier than this...
Any tips on vandal-squashin'?RageSamurai21655 14:57, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for my random absence :S , but I'm back now.
You're doing really well! Your reversions are accurate, and you're warning the vandal in question every time, which is great :)
If you find a vandal is persistent, then don't forget that after they've gotten their final warning you can list them at WP:AIV, which always has eyes on it.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Do you have any questions?
Cheers- CattleGirl talk 01:57, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
None for now, but I did rework the Master Control (Cartoon Network) page recently. Probably one of my biggest edits to date, I daresay.... RageSamurai21655 20:17, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Very nice, I just checked it out :)
Keep up the (very) good work! CattleGirl talk 10:44, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Which AV tool is better - Lupin AVT or Twinkle? RageSamurai21655 20:59, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Also, is it a good idea to use 'em together, or would they conflict and make an absolute mess outta my monobook? RageSamurai21655 (talk) 21:14, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
I could have sworn I'd replied to this, but it seems I hadn't.
Well, I have them both- it really depends on what you want to do. Lupin's better for just reverting and warning vandals, but Twinkle has a lot more functions.
So far it hasn't made a mess to my monobook, so I'd say it'd be a good idea to have them both :) Cheers-, and sorry for the late reply- CattleGirl talk 22:43, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Bah! No problem.
Now, what I want to know is how I can become as good a vandal-fighter as, say, RickK or The Rambling Man. Is length of service everything or is there more? Plus, I'm not sure how to contribute majorly to a featured article like almost all admins have. Two One Six Five Five (talk) 22:47, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

(outdent) I guess the only thing I can really say is to do a lot of it. You have the tools for the job, but remember, one of the reasons the two users you listed are so notable is because they did it, and did it accurately. There's no quantity without quality, after all, but I think you've got that! With the featured articles... hm. I've never edited noe significantly myself, but as you said, a lot of people have. If you want to edit an article to become featured, your best bet would be to choose a good article, have a look at the parts where it failed to become a FA on the criteria sheets (all links are at WP:FA or WP:GA), and then edit mercilessly! If you have more persistence, then perhaps editing an article that's not even a Good Article, and move it up through the ranks. So yes. Really, just pick an article you're interested in, have a look at the WP:FA criteria, and give it a go. And usually there'll be a few other people wanting to edit with you, so it'll be all good. I think that's all... sorry if I missed anything, I'm a bit distracted. You heard of The Red Shore? Sad day for Australian metal. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:17, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Hmmmm. Red Shore? Never heard of it. Not even on WP.
As for these failed FAs you speak of, I can't find the links. Could you perhaps include a direct link to this and the criteria in your next message? Two One Six Five Five (talk) 17:59, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Hello again :)
A late merry Christmas.
Yeah, they're not notable enough for WP. Actually, they might be now, they've definitely had extensive news coverage lately...
Their link's at [1] if you're interested. But I don't know what music you listen to, so...
I think they're fantastic, anyway.
What I meant with the featured articles was to find a page that's been reviewed and upgraded to a Good article, and have a look at the criteria linked to on the article talk page (or you can find them at WP:GACR). Then you can have a look at the Featured Article criteria to see on which points the article failed to reach FA status, and to edit from there judging on the differences between the FA criteria and the GA criteria.
I hope that made sense! Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:56, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Re:W? HID? Part 2

Merry Christmas, or more precisely, Happy New Year to you too. I got erroneously warned for REVERTING vandalism, which is a bit goofy the way I see it. Also, I proposed a new barnstar. Check it out here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_awards. One question though: how do I make custom signatures like yours? Two One Six Five Five (talk) 22:03, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

 :) thanks
Well, you were reverting vandalism! The editor realised he made a mistake, so that's ok.
I checked out the barnstar too. I think it looks good! Well done there... I'm shocking with images >.<
Custom signatures? Fairly easy. Takes a small amount of knowledge in html though.
So the code for mine is
'''[[User:CattleGirl|<font color="blue">Cat</font><font color="darkblue">tleG</font><font color="black">irl</font>]]'''

''[[User talk: CattleGirl| talk]]''
So simply, I have the link to my userpage right at the front, and then after the line- | - where I put what the link's displayed as, I use HTML formatting, such as font colours, etc. If you don't know that, which I sure didn't then, then just google HTML codes or similar.
Once you've gotten all the coding, then just put it in your preferences and check Raw Sig.
Oh- and I should mention that you need to be careful with how you customise your signature- colour sensitivity, length, etc. But it sums all that up in WP:SIG.
Cheers- CattleGirl talk 09:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I was referring to the AFD barnstar 2.0 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_awards#New_Afd_Barnstar_Proposal) but I guess the C.T.O.M. star is somewhat good too. Even though it's just a stupid polygon with a gradient that I threw together in Inkscape in five minutes.
I at least hope my new sig won't irk the sysops, even though I'm none too sure that there's such thing as red/black color-blindness. Two One Six Five Five discuss my greatness 17:58, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
'Nother question: If adoption isn't forever, then how do I know when it ends? I mean, it's not like I WANT it to, because you're a great mentor, but I might go for an RfA sometime this year. But not in the first quarter unless I'm feeling particulary brash. Two One Six Five Five discuss my greatness 18:57, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Yep, that's the one I saw :)
Your sigs good! Very nice indeed >.<
Adoption? I was actually going to ask you about that. You can break it off anytime you want, after all, we've been working together since... well I think it's archived now. So a while :) . And you sure know the ropes, which is what the program's all about.
So it's up to you!
I saw your userbox page, btw. Very nice, I also don't like Green Day >.<
Cheers- CattleGirl talk 03:50, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
How's my edit count? I can't do it myself, but perhaps if you were to just look me up and and hit Ctrl+PrintScreen or something, then email the pic to me or something.
The problem: web filters....'
I think I'll be ready to graduate from adoption if my future RfA becomes successful. Heck knows who's gonna nominate me, because I'm none too sure if many people know about the Wikipedia genius that is the guy that for some reason likes his username with all numbers in it, but still....
Also, check this out. (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdmin_coaching%2FRequests_for_Coaching&diff=181896672&oldid=181807389) I'm planning early, eh?
Also, I joined the CVU and the LoC. Woohoo!
PS: Pardon the egocentricalness. It's a good way to keep up self-esteem.
PPS: Fun fact: My home country of Brazil has the largest cattle industry in the world, as well as the most cowboys. I figgered since your username is CattleGirl, that was a fact woth mentioning.
PPPS: The lead signer of Green Day states he doesn't want to be an (American) idiot, but it's too late for that, eh? [audience laughter]
Two One Six Five Five discuss my greatness 16:08, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Your edit count's fair good. I'll printscreen in a minute.... One thing though (although it's pretty minor now) is the edit summaries. But you usually fill that in, so that's not a big deal.
I'd be happy to nominate you, or your admin coach when the time comes, so don't worry about that! I think however that it'd be a good idea to sever adoption before submitting an RFA- although there's nothing wrong with being adopted, I think people would just be more comfortable if you weren't? If that makes sense. It probably doesn't.
Honestly, I think that you've got enough experience, and I think that maybe about a month or something after adoption you could consider adopting other editors. That'd probably be a good time to look at admin coaching as well- which I see you've already been looking at! (well done).
League of Copyeditors, hey? I think I'm going to join that, actually.
Thanks for reminding me if it's existence! I've been looking for some more variety.
Braziallian cattle? I honestly did not know that. But I guess I focus more on the australian and american industry. But thanks to your comment I now have 3 tabs open about Brazillian cattle >.<
And how I absolutely detest that song. Good quote though :P
I see you don't like MCR! (shocking. We could never be friends >.< . I just went to their concert!) Are you into any metal? Love it. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:46, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I've just been told I'm going away for a week, leaving on the 6th. I may or may not have internet connection... hm. Shame, I'm going to be a bit bored :P. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 11:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Bah...the frick with RfAing this year--have you seen how many people freaking nominated Pheadriel? I could never find enough people who found my edits any good, except for reverting vandalism, and people don't support RfAs for just that. Besides, I have way too few edits. I'm a BURBA, for crying out friggin' loud!
Perhaps another year.
Anyway, any other tips to show me? Two One Six Five Five discuss my greatness 17:08, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry about that! Phaedriel's very experienced, and could have been an administrator a long while ago in my view. I mean, on my RFA of course there were those who've I've met around the project, and many who only noticed me for the first time during my RFA. It doesn't matter- they'll review your contributions just the same :). And when you think of how many users are on wikipedia, you can be sure that you're well known around here!
And I'd be quote happy of course to nominate you when I feel you're ready- not quite yet, but you sure are getting there :).
If I were you, I'd go for an editor review. Every day I find more parts of the project that I never knew existed, and there's people reviewing who can suggest things I've never thought of.
Some quick advice I can give you now before I head off...
Edit summaries- just be sure that you fill in all of them. If you wanted, you can change your preferences in My Preferences -> Editing -> "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary"
And more directly, with rounding your editing, I'd have a look at more Wikipedia namespace discussion- and mainspace discussion. Where you have many user talk edits (which is great!) people would like to see some article discussion as well :)
But you really are doing well, so keep it up :) Cheers- CattleGirl talk 07:29, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Afdbarn.svg

A tag has been placed on Image:Afdbarn.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. For FAC all you have to do is state whether you support od object. Heres some examples:
  • Support Well written and sourced. (or other good stuff)
  • Oppose Poorly sourced and written. (or other problems)
AFDs are Articles for deletion, am I coorect? I don't really have problems with those. Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 00:39, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Your VandalProof Application

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, 21655. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that:

WP:ADMINCOACH

If you specifically want to be "matched" with The Transhumanist or CattleGirl, why don't you ask one of them yourself? - Revolving Bugbear 17:34, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey, hey, hey. Maybe there's some steps I gotta take before getting an adco, but I'm not sure. Point is, newcomers aren't the only ones people shouldn't bite. Got it? Two One Six Five Five discuss my greatness 19:04, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Er, my apologies if that came across as uncivil -- it wasn't meant that way. I meant it as an honest suggestion. I actually think that, if you want someone specific as your coach, you should go ahead and ask, because it can't hurt, right? No gruffness intended, only trying to help. - Revolving Bugbear 19:14, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Help

Question: You've probably got this a jillion times before, but what in the heck is {{{1}}} and what is its effect in a template?

Hey there! {{{1}}} serves as a variable parameter in a template. For example, {{userbox}} uses a bunch. I'll look for an official page on here and try to conjure up a more complete example, but that's the gist of it. Hope it helps! Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 23:00, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Hiya, {{{1}}}} is a parameter allowing for certain word to be changed within a template. Default parameters are the numbers 1, 2, 3, etc. The numbers correspond to the order of the items in the template name code (separated by | symbols). For more information, see User:The Transhumanist/Virtual classroom#Parameters -- Matthew Edwards | talk | Contribs 23:07, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
No problem, Matthew's got a great link there that explains them. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 23:13, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
