Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. DuncanHill 11:54, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your request for help

Thanks for your message on my talk page - yes that's the right place to get a message to me! I've had a quick look at your edit to the "to do" list at the Islam talk page. I think that what you are saying there would be seen by many people as contentious - so you would need to find some very good references before adding it to the article. When an article arouses such strong feelings and possibility for controversy as the Islam article does, building a consensus is very important before making bold statements. I suggest you add the text you want put into the article as a new section on the talk page, together with any references you can find, and ask for comments. I think you would probably need to wait more than a couple of days - let's say a week - to give other editors time to comment in an informed way. I hope that this is of some help - please feel free to ask if there is anything more you need to know.

By the way - you forgot to put ~~~~ after your message to me, this would produce a signature which makes it easier for me to reply. Also, I think it would be a good idea for you to get an account with a username - that way, you will be able to edit "semi-protected" articles yourself, as well as having your own userpage and talk page like I have. It is free, and you don't have to give out any personal information - in fact, with a username you have better privacy than you do editing with an IP address!
