Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. —Jeremy (talk) 01:06, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, you appear to have confused it with the Open Directory Project. Both WP:NOT and WP:EL state that Wikipedia is not to be used as a web directory. Most Wikipedians would consider the links that you are adding as spam. Please stop or you may be blocked from editing. —Jeremy (talk) 00:48, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue spamming Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. Girolamo Savonarola 02:16, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
You asked: "it would be good for a page about time lapse photography to have to links to some examples of time lapse photography, don't you think?" — The article already includes examples of time-lapse photography. Anyone wanting to see more examples is perfectly capable of performing a web search using their choice of web directory or search engine. Once again, this is not a web directory as is clearly stated at WP:NOT. At least one of the links was initially added by you, I suspect that your undoing the removal of the other links is merely to reinstate that link (to your own website perhaps?). —Jeremy (talk) 23:16, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
From WP:EL:
Links normally to be avoided
- Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article.
-
- For the article to gain featured status it would need to include appropriate examples of time-lapse photography. If the current examples are sub-par, this is a reason to improve the article and not a reason to direct the reader to other websites. Wikipedia exists to provide freely licenced content, not to advertise other peoples websites.
- Links mainly intended to promote a website.
-
- I would contend that the majority of the links that I removed were added by the website owners with the intention of promoting their website.
- Links to blogs and personal web pages, except those written by a recognized authority.
-
- Most, if not all of the links that I removed were links to blogs or personal websites.
Unless the three people mentioned by name in the HDR section are verifiably recognized as pioneers of HDR time-lapse (i.e. mentioned in independent reliable sources) their names and website links should be removed too. —Jeremy (talk) 02:58, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
