[edit] Some comments on galaxies
I noticed that you have sudddenly begun to make many changes to articles on galaxies, so I thought I would make a couple of comments:
- Spiral galaxies are not cleanly differentiated between "barred" and "unbarred", nor is the differentiation between barred and unbarred galaxies necessarily the most important characteristic of barred galaxies. (The difference between loosely-would and tightly-would spiral galaxies is a much stronger defining characteristic.) Also note that the de Vaucouleurs classification system includes an intermediate class between barred and unbarred galaxies that could be described as weakly barred. I therefore suggest holding back in terms of changing articles to indicate that spiral galaxies are divided into "barred" and "unbarred" classes unless you plan on discussing all of these nuances.
- Merging spiral nebula into spiral galaxy is a good idea. However, unlike many other administrative actions in Wikipedia, articles are not merged by any administrators but are instead merged by individual contributors. Therefore, I would like to know whether you yourself will plan to merge the articles. If you do not plan to do so, then I suggest removing the merge notices. (You should have also added some discussion to Talk:Spiral nebula as to why it should be merged into spiral galaxy.)
Please contact me at User Talk:Dr. Submillimeter if you have questions. Dr. Submillimeter 15:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Also, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. You need to add references for your edits. Your edits to Nebula are almost completely unreferenced. (I am also rewriting this section because the divisions between some of these objects are not as distinct as implied from your edits. In particular, reflection nebulae, emission nebulae, and dark nebulae can all be described as diffuse nebulae.) Dr. Submillimeter 15:39, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Do not create ann article entitled "Sextans Galaxy Group"
Please do not create an article entitled "Sextans Galaxy Group". Such a group does not exist. Sextans A, Sextans B, Sextans C, and the Sextans Dwarf Spheroidal do not form a group of galaxies by themselves. Instead, they are part of the Local Group. Dr. Submillimeter 18:10, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] June 2007
Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent contribution removed content from List of non-periodic comets. Please be more careful when editing articles and do not remove content from Wikipedia without a good reason, which should be specified in the edit summary. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you.
