2007 Quincy Teacher Strike

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Starting on June 8, 2007, the teachers of the Quincy Public Schools began to strike because of pay cuts and health benefit cuts. Paul Phillips led the strike and represented the strikers on the local television station, QATV. The strike ended after nearly a week of deadlock, when the courts ruled the strike to be illegal.

[edit] Aftermath

The strike caused the final day of school to be delayed, postponing graduation ceremonies and various other events. The strike is commonly said to be a cause of Mayor Phelan's major defeat in the November mayoral elections.
