[edit] A note on the importance of summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. MURGH disc. 17:58, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding edits to George Washington (film)

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, 199.231.146.254! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule criterion\.com, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 19:46, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Please stop adding inappropriate links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and will be removed. Thanks. Shadowbot 19:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Please stop spamming Wikipedia. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing. Shadowbot 19:52, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Shadowbot 19:55, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

You have been temporarily blocked from editing Wikipedia for continuing to add spam links. If you wish to make useful contributions, you are welcome to come back after the block expires. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia. Ian Cairns 20:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I now accept that this anon was correcting weblinks rather than inserting spam links, as reported by the bots. I therefore wish to unblock this individual - with my apologies. However, the Wikipedia facility to do this is not working. If I can't find a way to do this, then the block will run out in a few hours. I'm leaving this note on file for clarification.
