Attention:

This IP address, 198.97.67.59, is registered to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and may be shared by multiple users. If the organization uses proxy servers or firewalls, this IP address may in fact represent many users at many physical computers.

For this reason, a message intended for one person may be received by another and a block may be shared by many. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases, you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to fight vandalism; if so, please see here.

If you are autoblocked repeatedly, we encourage you to contact your Internet service provider or IT department and ask them to contact Wikimedia's XFF project about enabling X-Forwarded-For HTTP headers on their proxy servers so that our editing blocks will affect only the intended user. Alternatively, you can list the IP at Wikipedia:WikiProject on XFFs.

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider using a soft block with the template {{anonblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Note: In the event of vandalism from this address, abuse reports may be sent to your network administrator for further investigation.
IT staff who want to monitor vandalism from this IP address can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format.

Please stop blanking all of the Slashdot pages, without ample discussion on talk pages and the proper VFD process. I'll add them to the appropiate page if you wish. Estel (talk) 08:48, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Recent additions to Systems Architect

Thanks for your recent additions to Systems Architect. They are much appreciated.

normxxx| talk email 01:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I just finished my first semester in the Systems Architecture and Engineering Master's program at the University of Southern California. I'm too green to call myself an SE or SA yet. Call me, at best, an SE/SA in training.

Judging from what you've written so far, you're getting outstanding training. Sounds like a great program and/or great instructors. But beyond the science and engineering is the politics. And political heft comes with age (note, I said age, not experience). The reason is simple. In a very large program, the SE or SA is one among many engineers and, depending on the management structure, his principle means of winning his point is "moral suasion." This is (strangely enough) likely to prove more true for the SA than the SE. (Engineers still tend to carry more weight.) And, unless the individual is personally known or comes highly recommended, people do not like to defer to 'peers' who are younger than themselves.

However, that's a relatively minor problem; I just wanted to warn you that you will be spending much more time for the first few years in the field learning 'real politck' than technology. I hope you like people; SEs and SAs spend about as much time negotiating as engineering— probably second only to management. SE is coming into its own, so a bright future awaits you.

Keep the attitude— you'll need it. Just learn when to hold back, as my sainted mother used to say, "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." normxxx| talk email 21:24, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Your points are answerable, but not without some careful thought (and wording); I will be answering you in due course. In the meantime, do you believe I left off anything from my list of SA responsibilities? This list is from an article I wrote many years ago, and I had to do it without benefit of reference to anyone else's texts on SA.

Wow! You have quite a temper. Can we find any common ground? Or maybe agree to disagree? Your point of view is valid and I congratulate you on your passion, but is there any way you might allow my point of view to be reflected in the debate too? You have reverted avery single contribution I've made to this article.
