The right to host the 1980 Summer Olympics (Games of the XXII Olympiad) was contested by two cities, namely: Moscow (URS) and Los Angeles (USA). The city of Moscow eventually won on October 23, 1974. Because of the Cold War relations of that era, the US would boycott these games.
