  • The "AFL Season by Team" template is named in a manner consistent with the NFL by season templates.
  • The "AFL Season by Team" template addresses the relationship (first competition, then merger) with the NFL
  • The "AFL Season by Team" is formatted in a manner consistent with the NFL by season by templates tag.
  • The "AFL Season by Team" was developed by collaboration in order to solve the above issues.

Therefore, either "American Football League 196X" templates should be aliased to the "196X AFL Season by Team" templates or should be deleted.

I would say just redirect the other template. There is nothing to merge. This is definitely the right name for this template. Goes with all the others.
