The 1954 Tour de France was the 41st Tour de France, taking place July 8 to August 1, 1954. The total race distance was 23 stages over 4656 km, with riders averaging 33.229 km/h. For the first time the Tour began in a country other than France. Starting in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 100,000 spectators turned out there alone [1]. The Tour was also marked by the absence of an Italian team and hence the Italians.
