- January 1 – The Rose Bowl Game is broadcast for the first time, on the Los Angeles station KHJ.
- March 13 – The first speaker-containing radio is produced. Before this, radios had required headphones.
- 1 April – In Vienna the Czeija & Nissl electrical company begins test transmissions from its premises in co-operation with a technical high school, the Technisches Gewerbemusem. This marks the start of radio broadcasting in Austria.

- December 25 – Gordon Baxter (d. 2005), radio personality in Southeast Texas, author and columnist.
- Vida Jane Butler (d. 2007), radio announcer, voice-over artist. Also known as "Janie Joplin."
