[edit] Summary
1755 Stow's Map of Shoreditch & Norton Folgate
[edit] Source
John Stow's map of London in 1755, the creator (and assumed copyrightholder) died in 1605 - which is, I suspect before copyright laws came into being.
- Originally engraved for Richard Blome (1635-1705) in the late seventeenth century, the map was first published in 1720, then appeared in John Stow's A Survey of the Cities of London and Westminster (London 1754).
- The map can be seen here British Library London:A life in maps, in an interactive version. (accessed 14 May 2007)
- The map also exists in digital form on the 1998 CD-ROM Hackney on Disk, a collaboration of Sutton House (NT) and London Borough of Hackney archives, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to make archives on Hackney accessible to the public.
