- William Hogarth is commissioned by Robert Jones of Fonmon Castle to paint The Jones Family Conversation Piece.
- Construction of the north-east wing of Bodysgallen Hall.

- September 22 - Griffith Jones (Llanddowror) writes to the S.P.C.K. proposing that a Welsh school be set up at Llanddowror. This marks the beginning of the circulating schools movement.
