From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Howdy! Words like Sand Creek and Custer should be capitalized. Your additions to the Black Kettle article need to be edited. You need to read the "Manual of Style" and "How to Edit a Page" (below) in Wikipedia. You need to work on you Wikilinki's. Also phrases like: "would attack just before dawn to the strains of "Gary Owen" squawking from the frozen instruments of their band," might be just a little to poetic for an encyclopedia.

[edit] Tip for Editing

If you are going to make a lot of edits+saves, I would recommend that you copy the article in edit view to your word processor, like MSFT Word, or even MSFT Notepad, make all of your changes, and then copy+paste back. WikiDon 17:48, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Article Content

Try and keep articles focused on the content the pertains to the title of the article. Don't stray to far from its subject. The article Black Kettle is about the "man", don't stray to far into talking about the battles, the Cheyenne people, Custer, etc., unless it relates to Black Kettle's action in and with such.

Example: The link http://www.nps.gov/waba/story.htm belongs in the Battle of the Washita article, not the Black Kettle article. The 7th cav link belongs in the that article.

[edit] STOP...!!!!

Making new articles when one already existed! SLOW DOWN!!!!

READ the HELP section. There was already an article Battle of Washita River for the battle....!!!!!

LEARN to search for articles FIRST before just creating a new one!

[edit] Working in Wikipedia

Slow down for a minute. I am spending some time fixing your edits.

  • 1) Create a user account that you can log into, track your changes, have a watch list, make it easier to communicate with others. You don't have to, but it is strongly recommended.
  • 2) READ the Manual of Style, How to Edit a Page, etc. (above). Learn how to make both internal Wikilinkis and external links.
  • 3) Learn how to search Wikipedia looking for articles.
  • 4) Learn how to communicate with other contributors/editors.

A little time now spent doing these items, will save not only you time, but other editors that are fixing your articles.

EXAMPLE look at Washita now, compared to when you created it.
