[edit] Stop
Stop vandalising, period. You keep on linking to non-existant articles in the Tropical Cyclone pages, and in case you didn't know, they were all reverted. For users with this same name that have no clue what I'm talking about, don't worry, but for the user who constantly adds non-existant links, please stop. If you plan on making articles in the future for them, that's fine, but you should actually make the articles before linking to them. Either find another place to do your vandalism that doesn't have anything to do with tropical cyclones, or actually respect what people have done. Hurricanehink 20:58, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for the apology. I'm really sorry for assuming you were a vandal and the way I acted, but I see where you're coming from. There could be enough information for the articles, but because none were created yet, all of the content is in the seasonal article. In the future, you can click preview, and if there is a red link, that means that no article exists yet, so you don't have to put a link to them. I appreciate the apology, and if you want to write an article for the storms you linked to, you can find some help at the bottom of the seasonal pages (that is if you want to). Hurricanehink 15:20, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] A name
You should consider creating a name. It takes about 5 seconds, and it will remove the anonymity that most users don't like. Because your were anonymous, I thought you were a petty vandal when you added the links, but if you were a "real" member, I would have asked you (but that is old news). You are doing a nice job in the Tropical Cyclone realm of Wikipedia, and should consider creating a name for yourself. Hurricanehink 20:06, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome
Hello, welcome to Wikipedia.

[edit] You're doing a good job but...
Sorry to keep coming on your page. You are doing a nice job. You just have one major problem. No offense, but you are creating too many useless pages. I see the work you put into them, but if they are only a few sentences, you should just add the information to the seasonal article. An article is not needed on every storm, especially the old ones that no one remembers. You don't need to write an article on a storm that delayed a funeral, or sank a ship. While they are somewhat notable for those reasons, it would be much more informative if that information appeared in the seasonal or decadal article that already exists. They are there for a reason, to condense the great number of storms in a single area. Hurricanehink 16:22, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
- I want both to encourage you and to reinforce what Hurricanehink says above. Check out the difference between your version of 1971 Pacific hurricane season and what a more seasoned editor did to clean it up: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=1971_Pacific_hurricane_season&diff=28610657&oldid=28605871 (note that the more complicated stuff is from an Wikipedia:infobox)
- Basically, it's important that you create articles that conform more to Wikipedia standards -- otherwise people will get frustrated by cleaning up after you, despite the excellent information that you are adding. BCorr|Брайен 22:04, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Stub hurricane articles
Please don't create stub hurricane articles when there is a season article already in place. Instead you should expand the hurricane's text in the season article. Only if there is too much text/pictures in the season article is a separate article justified. Jdorje 02:47, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
- Also, don't extend the List of Pacific typhoon seasons article any further yet. You just added about 20 pages, but some of them only have like 5 storms and that's it. Calm down with the article creating. It is nice to see some enthusiasm in the realm of tropical cyclones, but you can't go on a spree, when much of it has to be changed greatly. If there is any doubt, ask on the List of Pacific typhoon talk page. Hurricanehink 22:37, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! -- Alf melmac 15:58, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Spelling
(Oh no, this guy is invading my talk page again) Yea, yea. Just to let you know, you are doing a nice job. However, every page you make that has David Longshore's Hurricane book, you misspell a word. It is Encyclopedia, not Encyclopeida. Also, your choice of wording is sometimes a little unusual. Also, sorry for reverting a lot of your articles, but there are seasonal pages for a reason. If it's not more than 2 paragraphs (for a total of 10-12 lines), then you should add to the seasonal page. Some of the old Atlantic onces, Anjte's Hurricane and Padre Ruiz hurricane come to mind, they just aren't notable enough to have full-blown articles. You can simply add the content there. If there's any question on whether or not to add the question, just ask somewhere. So long for now. Hurricanehink 03:32, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Great Storm of 1703, Hurricane Dennis, North Indian Cyclone Naming, Hurricane Belle, and Hurricane Ellen
Just because the website says it was a hurricane, doesn't mean it was one. In Europe, they call powerful extratropical storms hurricanes. Plus, it was in December at that latitude. No hurricane has ever hit Europe, and ones that have come close were in September and October (October being where T.S. Vince hit). There just isn't enough data to call it a hurricane. Extratropical storm would be more appropriate.
For Hurricane Dennis, are you doing for the seasonal article or for making its own article? It it's for making a Dennis article, are you sure it needs one? What more can be said about the storm than what is already on the seasonal page? If it is for the seasonal page, I'll be glad to help you. This is what I do. I'm not sure what I do is correct, but no one has said anything yet. First, make sure the website that you want it from ends in .gov
- Go to upload file.
- Follow link to Wikimedia commons (or just skip this step and do it on Wikipedia, but Wikimedia Commons if preferred)
- Go to upload file in the Wikimedia commons main page
- Bring up the page of the image you want for Wikipedia. Make sure that picture isn't already on Wikipedia by looking on pages where it might be (if a Dennis picture existed, it might be on the 1999 Atlantic hurricane season page)
- Right click
- Choose save file as, name it, and save it to your computer.
- Go to the upload file screen.
- Click browse, and select the saved file where you put it.
- Under destination file name, you can change the name to what you want it to be
- Under summary, include where you found the file, and what is seen in the image. If it's a NOAA site, include
{{PD-USGov-NOAA}} {{NOAA logo}}
- Click licensing, and choose "Original Work of the US Federal Government - public domain"
- Click upload file
And there you go. I have done Belle this way (good find on pic), now you try Dennis. To put the image on the article, simply do this: Image:Where the file is.jpg (or whatever else it is)
For North Indian cyclone naming, I have no idea why this one was called Aurora. I tried asking some people, but nobody had any clue. This is an unusual anomaly, and there appears to be no reason for it to have a name.
That Hurricane Ellen picture looks nice, but because it ends in .com, we can't use it.
One last thing, you should create a name. You are doing too much good work to be ignored as a petty anon (that's what the general Wikipedia stereotype for an anon is, just vandalises or does nothing good). It's extremely simple, and nothing will change except for people can identify you better. All anonymous users look the same... Hurricanehink 14:10, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Unblock request
I clicked on a red link and this message came up mentioning that the previous user sharing this address was blocked. So can this address be unblocked? 164.106.201.50 13:01, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
