[edit] Barnstar

Image:anonstar.jpg The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution
I hereby award you, the anonymous contributors hailing from 156.34.0.0 - 156.34.255.255, with The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution, for the unsung and thankless service you have rendered unto Wikipedia, in your countless minor edits and bigger contributions over time. They have made a difference in our community and hopefully retelling this event to the barmen you encounter may bring forth the odd free beer to wrap in your hand. Thanks!--Alf melmac 14:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC) and Bubba hotep 14:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
tears, smiles, waves to the audience as he walks down the podium, kisses losing IPs on the cheek. 156.34 is a team of bored librarians(and the occasional vandalising student...but we'll ignore them). On behalf of the "library crew"..we thank you for the token of Wiki-appreciation. 156.34.142.110 14:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, this has more historical significance than appears on the surface. You see, this is probably the only Barnstar young Alfred has given out this year (something about losing the keys to the cabinet or something) so, as such, is rare indeed. Guard it with your life. ;) Bubba hotep 14:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Seeing this page is quite shocking. Thank you! Enigma (talk) 17:29, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm happy to see it. I have to admit that I do have a bias against anonymous editors as well, but the reason for that bias is that most of the vandalism edits I revert do come from IP addresses. However, IP addresses do sometimes provide valuable input, and this is certainly the most striking example. All of Wikipedia is in your debt. Enigma (talk) 18:05, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey, did Pat give you my MSN name? We should chat sometime! Enigma msg! 22:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

The Editor's Barnstar
So here is a barnstar for being my unofficial mentor and for giving me some great times on Wikipedia. It's also for cleaning up a lot of the junk that makes it onto here... Tally Ho! Take care, friend. ScarianTalk 14:11, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Invisible Barnstar

The Invisible Barnstar
The Invisible Barnstar is awarded to 156.34.142.110 for their outstanding contributions to Wikipedia and for not seeking any form of recognition or reward for their contributions. The description for this award says that this is for users who "Make significant and helpful contributions to the project, but keep to the background without seeking recognition or reward for their work." and being that 1) You only edit as a Static IP and have forgone you old account and 2) Have made nothing but good contributions to Wikipedia, I figured that you deserved this barnstar :). Congrats! Mifter (talk) 03:20, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I came upon your user page and after a few minutes of thought I realized that you were probably the perfect candidate for this barnstar being that you edit as an IP address. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your new barnstar!--Mifter (talk) 03:20, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Userboxes

I was thinking about what you had said and I decided to create a few userboxes to describe you, If you would like to you can add them to your userpage :), Thanks--Mifter (talk) 22:45, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

Your IP address is one of three (156.34.142.110, 142.166.250.98, 156.34.211.193) that have recently being involved in an edit war with User:Navnløs regarding formatting in music articles. Because all three of these IP address come from the same location (St. John, New Brunswick) and because at least one of them has had contact with other edits involved in this long-running dispute - I believe that all of the IPs are being used by a single individual or by a number of individuals engaged in coordinated edit warring. I have therefore blocked all three IPs for 24 hours. You can find more information here. If you feel that this block is unwarranted, you may appeal it by following the process outlined here. TigerShark (talk) 16:45, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

OMGWTF somebody doesn't know who libsey is! Weltanschaunng 18:11, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

He's out for the weekend thankfully. Hmm... interesting situation though. Kameejl's code is coming along nicely. As I write this I am having another admin look into it. Surprise, surprise... the script only changes "," to "<br />" and not visa versa. I've been advised just to watch carefully... these are interesting times we live in. ScarianCall me Pat 22:16, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually I didn't see where libsey flouted the 3rr rule. Unless the user tigershark is assuming that the 142 IP is libsey (which is wrong I think). Dunno I have kept myself away from the line break, comma war at all times so I don't really know. I guess libsey being an IP could've been a factor, but that's my POV anyway. Weltanschaunng 06:57, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Tigershark is basing it on the premise that all three IPs are the same user. Libs's main IP (this one) clearly did not engage in an edit war. Enigma message 07:02, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Did you see the AN posting? Enigma message 07:04, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah I did, basically the report started out as a complaint against Navnlos, but some user inquired whether the IPs are related. So basically Tigershark must've checked whether the IPs are from the same area, which he claims to have found (I really don't know much about RDNS and other IP tracing stuff). I did a check on 142 IP and it seems to be from Canada. I don't know the exact details, though. IMO, even if the block is only for 24 hrs, it is essential that the block be contested since the block is based on wrong premises. Weltanschaunng 08:21, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Well now I checked again, and libsey (variable ip) did two reverts, while the unknown 142 ip did the third. Weltanschaunng 08:25, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi. Yes that is the premise that I was working with, along with the fact that this IP address has been involved in the content dispute previously (including the exchange that led to a previously block for Navnlos [1]), and the likelihood that the IP is dynamic is reinforced by this edit which took place at around the same time, with different content, but an identical edit summary. I have no way to prove that the 156 and 142 IPs are the same person of course, and I will be happy to admit any mistake and apologise, but I blocked Navnlos and the significant similarities between the IPs locations and reverts meant that I felt I had to block them too, to be even handed. I did make the reasoning clear on WP:AN3 and here, so that it was as transparent, and as easy to appeal as possible. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 11:23, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] One another note

I have completed the work in my sandbox, and I have introduced the new format in the list. Its not all done, most non-us bands don't have a description. And I got to put pics in too, maybe even include some description about the major scenes...I would like to know the FA procedure too :D! Weltanschaunng 14:50, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

On that point, would it be wise to put information about the major local scenes of thrash in the list, or does that info belong to the main article? Weltanschaunng 09:29, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
