If you come back in a week or two and abide by Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Disputes over style issues, Wikipedia:Consensus, and Wikipedia:Civility, I think you will be welcomed as a productive editor. —Centrxtalk • 00:29, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I always did: since the beginning I was productive and abode the law. Then Llywrch came into action.--151.47.87.229 00:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

This is not supposed to be a punishment. I mentioned a couple of days, I mentioned a couple of weeks. The interval is to let the issue cool down and put it in perspective. I recognize that you have been on Wikipedia a long time and have been a productive contributor. I just want you to recognize that having dates indicated by "AD" or not is not a major issue, but trying to force that format against everyone is, and it doesn't accomplish the goal anyway. If you keep making the changes, they are just going to be changed back. There are much more productive and interesting things you can do on Wikipedia, or off Wikipedia. —Centrxtalk • 00:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Can you tell me how "525" and "200" by themselves are better than "AD 525" or "AD 200"? Ryūlóng 01:06, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I do think it can be settled by going away for a month. When you come back, just don't bother with the AD issue, or if you feel you must, bring it up again on the Manual of Style page. I would be happy to explain why I and other people on Wikipedia think that an acceptable style should not be changed to another style en masse. I happen to be one of the people on the Manual of Style who was discussing this with you when you brought it up there. —Centrxtalk • 01:06, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

The reason related to Wikipedia practice is that one acceptable style should not be changed to another acceptable style unless there is a substantial, good reason. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Disputes over style issues; the Arbitration Committee ruled, on a matter where someone was changing all AD/BC to BCE/BC, that when two styles are acceptable they should not be changed to the other one in the way you are doing. There are separate reasons why I and others have certain thoughts on the use of AD, but this is the reason why on Wikipedia you should not make the sort of changes you are making. It just causes edit wars, it just causes people to get annoyed or angry, and it doesn't really accomplish anything. —Centrxtalk • 01:13, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't think you realize this: I am not changing ADs into CEs, so this is not a matter of changing an acceptable style into another acceptable one; I am removing AD, where it is needed according to (my interpretation of) MoS.--151.47.87.229 01:24, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
