I do no think that is correct: even Mary's son Philips did hommage for Flanders to the king of France. Her grandson's regents tried to prevent Charles V from doing the same. The conflict about that was only settled in 1528, i.e. Flanders did not become part of the Holy Roman Empire until then. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.178.179.208 (talk) 21:39, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
