i read in a comment above that said they used hair to stuff mattesses; this i dont think this is entertily true, in some cases yes but in others no. In most camps they used they used straw as this was more uncomfotable than hair. thin and itchy sheets were used and most times no pillows at all. of coures this was maintained for more discomfort. but when hair was used it was no better; lice and fleas. back then in a camp it was untreatable so lice and fleas got into everything. for beds only planks of wood were used long and thin and very likely to break. more often than not 2 or even 3 people shared one bed under a very thin small blanket.
