[edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button Image:Signature_icon.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 22:31, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Your edits were copied verbatim from websites. See WP:COPYVIO--Ave Caesar (talk) 18:52, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

  • The websites themselves do not have any copyright protection for the articles I've cited. The statistics section I made was from publicly available information with no copyright protection. The athletics section was created from public information from IHSAA's website [1]. In addition to that, the current article should then be reverted again, based on your claims, because the current history section is copied from Valparaiso High School's website [2], with the addition of two sentences. I have read WP:COPYVIO and there is nothing about copying verbatim.134.240.94.56 (talk) 19:15, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Copyright protection does stand for anything already published (other than public domain materials) regardless of whether or not a copyright sign is indicated. Now, it is somewhat likely the material from the high school's website is public domain as a product of local government. I'm actually going to look into that in a sec. However, the news article that you copied from is not public domain. You can paraphrase and cite it. --Ave Caesar (talk) 19:19, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, you can't copy the information from the school's website. It specifically says, "© 1995 - 2008 Valparaiso Community Schools. All Rights Reserved" at the bottom of the page. Good edits take time - not copying and pasting. I suggest taking your time and paraphrasing at the least. --Ave Caesar (talk) 19:21, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, then I will paraphrase and cite it. But that also means that the current history, that the page has been reverted to, is also in violation of copyright protection. I still believe that the statistics I used are not copyright violations since that information is freely available to anyone and to be used for research.134.240.94.56 (talk) 19:27, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't object to inclusion of the stats. It's the analysis of stats that you can't copy. If they're notable (I haven't looked at them) then just say why in your own words. Feel free to remove/change any other copied material you see. --Ave Caesar (talk) 19:30, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Alright I revised the page. I paraphrased and rewrote both the history, academic and extracurricular activity sections. I left the bell schedule, course listing, sports records, student statistics and school song because that is all publicly available information.134.240.94.56 (talk) 21:28, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Noted, it'll probably need to be paraphrased some more, but at least this way it's not a direct copy. I fixed the section titles. Only the first word of sections should be capitalized unless it's a proper name. Thanks, --Ave Caesar (talk) 21:30, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Getting an Account, Engaging in Edit Wars

I see you're getting some flack from user Ave Caesar. He seems to delight in that. You might want to get a user account, and otherwise read up on WP policies, so that you may be better equipped to defend your edits in the face of the various WikiTroll bureaucrats that can sometimes make life here hellish. Other than that, welcome. :) Ender78 (talk) 18:55, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Er? Verbatim copying and pasting of websites is not permitted particularly when the website has a copyright. If it were then Wiki would lose its GFDL license. Now, stop stalking me. --Ave Caesar (talk) 19:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I make no attempt to rule on whatever happened. I merely assumed that this newbie is making good faith edits in bad ways. In any event, I'm not stalking you; I'm seeing how many people you're Biting, DTTR'ing, or generally making a nuisance of yourself with arcane policy discussion. In this case, it appears that while you may be correct regarding the content, it's also clear that the user in question DOES NOT know WP policy/procedure, and yet you lay it down on him anyway. Try welcoming the newbie, rather than spending your time wikilawyering. (After all, Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy.) Ender78 (talk) 19:28, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
On examining the article in question, I see it's pretty plain that simply adjusting the text, rather than blanket-reverting, would have had a much more productive result, particularly as the editor in question made several perfectly worthwhile, verifiable additions that you nonetheless paved over in your ruthless pursuit of wikiperfection. Ender78 (talk) 19:32, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm not addressing your trolling behavior here. Take it to ANI. --Ave Caesar (talk) 19:40, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
