[edit] Binghamton University vs. Geneseo

This whole debate about Binghamton University vs. Geneseo is silly

The first point I have to make is that the two schools are entirely different: Geneseo is great for the undergraduate experience for someone who is not particularly interested in all the offerings of a larger university, research, etc. Binghamton is great for an individual who is looking for the larger, more research oriented, style of education. The point is that they are both highly ranked institutions aimed at different types of students. HOWEVER: if one is to go strictly by the numbers and statistics, Binghamton University is ranked more highly than geneseo. In fact, Fisk guide has officially ranked binghamton, "the Premier public university in the Northeast." As far as admissions statistics go, while Geneseo has a slightly higher average in SAT and GPA scores, there is something that is greatly overlooked. Binghamton has a MUCH higher selectivity. This year, there were 23,000 applicants for just 2,200 spots. Further more, by the nature of a larger school of this selectivity, these scores will always appear slightly lower than small colleges simply because it is a much larger pool of people. In addition, Binghamton has many more programs aimed at academically challenged students, such as EOP, that are much larger than Geneseo's and weigh down their scores. Other important factors to consider are retention rate: Binghamton's is higher, Graduation rate: not only is Binghamton's higher, it is the 3rd highest among public schools, and placement: Binghamton's is the highest in SUNY for both graduate school and proffessional placement (this year's graduating class had 50% of student accepted into grad school). Now, I hope that this argument can be put to rest on two grounds: First, Geneseo has to accept that Binghamton is in fact ranked higher, and secondly, both schools need to understand and OPENLY RECOGNIZE that the two schools are very different, and ultimately it doesn't matter... it really depends on the individual student.

  • If you're going to contribute to Geneseo's page can you at least check for spelling errors? Perhaps Binghamton should offer better spelling and grammar courses so you don't embarrass the school when you go around trying to prove its superiority. "As apposed to" and "prospective" make you look damn foolish when you're trying to make Geneseo "RECOGNIZE" that Binghamton is ranked higher. Get a new hobby.
  • First of all, you are being incredibly rude and offensive to me, considering i have done nothing but portrait your school in a positive light as well. Secondly, I'm not a student or staff member of the University... I am a local historian and economist who does a great deal of study and research on the university. All of my information comes first hand and from valid resources. If you're going to make personal attacks, perhaps stop focussing on petty issues like spelling and redirect your efforts to building some personal character, not just in how you speak of me and other, but how you actively work to decieve the readers of the Geneseo article.

[edit] More Binghamton vs. Geneseo

  • Because wikipedia encourages that people don't just simply revert each other's edits all the time, I and several other editors of the SUNY Geneseo page made significant changes to the page in order to clarify the differences between the two schools. After that, it seemed as though you would stop the vandalism (specifically your continued insistence that Geneseo is "#2" to Binghamton in the SUNY system). That is disinformation, no matter how you try to sugar coat it with "impressively." There is no ranking of all SUNY schools, and going by the national rankings doesn't work because the schools are apples and oranges. This has been made explicit on the Geneseo page.

Since all you do is put the same thing up over and over again, and don't seem interested in contributing anything constructive to the page, I have decided to begin formal warnings that, if ignored, will lead to you being banned by Wikipedia.

Please do not deliberately introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did at State University of New York at Geneseo. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you.

  • I believe that your deleting this pertinant information is vandelism. It is supposed to be an unbiased article, and you twist wording in order to edify your school. I did not mention Binghamton at all in the article, simply added the non-biased fact into the article. Further more, there are rankings that put Binghamton up against Geneseo, and the fact of the matter is Binghamton is ranked as the top public school in the Northeast (a citation from Fisk Guide on Binghamton's page will support my statement).
  • I will no longer argue with you about this. You have been flagged for vandalism already on the Binghamton page. You are the only one who continues to insist on making head to head comparisons of Binghamton and Geneseo. Other editors agree with me, as evidenced on your talk page. Editors at the Geneseo page have tried to work constructively with your points, even going so far as to add a section trying to put rankings in context. Geneseo editos also recognize that there are NPOV problems with the page and there is an active effort on the page to clean it up and add a references section. That work is going to take a while, and, quite frankly, it is being delayed by the need to keep reverting your baseless #2 claim.

Further, it doesn't help your case that your IP address is owned by Binghamton University. Continued reverts on your part will be followed with vandal tags on your talk page which may lead to your being banned from wikipedia. I would expect no less from Binghamton editors if I was over on that page doing what you to the Geneseo page.

Just for clarity, "The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2005 calls Binghamton the “premier public university in the northeast.” Binghamton enrolls nearly 14,000 students in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs." That is a direct quote from: http://www.binghamtoncvb.com/education.asp No one is disputing that. The thing is, Geneseo makes no claims to be a public university. It is an undergraduate college with a handful of Master's programs. That is explained at length (and Binghamton is praised for it) on the Geneseo page.
