[edit] Frederick Henry
Just a couple of rules for you about page moves, since I see you're fairly new:
- The "title (disambiguation)" format is only applied to things where one owner of the title is so overwhelmingly more important than the other(s) that it deserves to be at the main title (eg. Ottawa vs. Ottawa (disambiguation)). If you're going to make the main title the disambiguation page, you don't need to move it to "title (disambiguation)" and then redirect the main title to that; the disambiguation page can go at just "title".
- Do not disambiguate with complex titles like "Frederick Henry, seventh bishop of Calgary, Canada". Frederick Henry (bishop) is entirely sufficient. Keep disambiguations as simple as possible. Bearcat 06:31, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Reply to notes left on User talk:Soir
When I first went to the page, it was a cyclic redirect. Sorry for the trouble. I didn't notice anything about this at Talk:Avatar, though, so I am querying whether other editors will feel the same way. Still, WP:BOLD applies, and I suppose query on that is best left to someone actively editing the article. Thanks. -- Soir (say hi) 18:10, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
- I looked at the documents on standard practice in this situation: WP:MM for moving pages, and WP:NC for naming conventions. Article names should be in English unless more commonly known in another way. I don't pretend to know the common term for Avatar(a), but pages should not be moved in the way you have done by taking text from an existing article and redirecting it. The correct way to go about making this change is to suggest it on Talk:Avatar, and then post a request to WP:RM to request that it be moved. This preserves the history of the page. Thanks for contributing! -- Soir (say hi) 19:07, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re Kush" disambiguation
I'm sorry your edit looked like vandalism to me. But you are going about your disambiguation in the wrong way, a copy and paste is not the correct way to rename a page since it does not preserve the page histories. And it is not clear to me that you need a disambiguation page in the first place since Kush and Kusha aren't spelled the same. Paul August ☎ 03:25, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, you can't move a page, since you are not registered. This is due to a persistent vandal that keeps moving pages to disrupt Wikipedia. The way would be to click "move" next to the history tab on any page. However, that tab is not present because that feature is disabled for anonymous editors, as I explained. However, Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! - Yes you have to be logged in to rename a page see Help:Renaming (moving) a page. But you can request a rename here: Wikipedia:Requested moves. I would highly recommend registration it has lots of advantages see Wikipedia:Why create an account?. You can register here: [1] However renaming pages can be controversial, so it is always wise to discuss the propose rename on the associated page's talk page. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. Paul August ☎ 03:51, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Kush (disambiguation)
There is no need to use Kush (ancient region) on the disambiguation page if the ancient region article exists at Kush. That's why it was deleted, that's why the page was changed so that it was the way it currently is. I take it from your actions that you disagree that what is currently at Kush should be there: if this is the case please present your reasoning behind this on my talk page and I'll consider making the necessary changes. Alternatively you can sign up for a user name as has been suggested above and do it yourself! -- Francs2000

- I can see you've had the principle behind page moves explained to you before so I won't bore you with the details of that one again, however I feel I need to pick up on a comment you left on my talk page.
-
- I attempted to generate this structure, creating the "Kush(ancient region)" page, naturally with no changes whatsoever from what previously obtained on the "Kush" page, but was repeatedly thwarted by people who clearly have never heard of Kush/Kusha, the hero from Hindu mythology. This is unreasonable and based on ignorance, which I am furthermore unable to dispel
- It is not through ignorance that your attempted disambiguation was "thwarted" it was because you went about it in the wrong way. Had you gone about it in the way that has already been described to you, I don't think we'd be having this discussion now.
- Having also looked into the case you presented on my talk page, I did some research on google and through other Wikipedia pages. Kush is linked to by 71 pages though I haven't checked yet how many of those are correct. Kusha is linked to by only 6 pages. "Kush + Nubia" gets 37,900 Google hits; "Kush + Hindu" gets over 400,000 though they mostly refer to a region called the Hindu Kush; "Kush + Lava" gets 16,100. Based on that evidence it looks like you were right to try and move Kush away from that page though moving it to Kush (ancient region) would have confused matters. After all, is not the Hindu Kush also an ancient region?
- How about, as a compromise, we move Kush to Kush (Nubian civilization), then move Kush (disambiguation) to Kush and also make sure there is a link there to Hindu Kush? That level of move will need to be done by an admin because it means temporarily deleting stuff, so if you would like me to do that for you I would be more than willing. -- Francs2000

[edit] Notability of Suzanne Briere
A tag has been placed on Suzanne Briere, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. BirgitteSB 19:17, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
