[edit] Adding external links

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.--Brewcrewer 21:00, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Billy Collins. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you.

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to George Saunders. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --ShelfSkewed Talk 19:02, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

NOTE TO shelfskewed...

Apologies if we have broken rules but we do not believe we have done so... Does adding author interviews fall under the spam rules (they are Q&As with said authors)? For example, you have left interviews with other entities under said articles (Guernica, Powells, NPR, etc...) Again, since the magazine is not for profit and posting author interview with the article subjects is not spamming. Again, we mean no harm but honestly believe that said interviews with these subjects should be included among the links and since the autjors are sopeaking for themselves are valuable for wiki users.128.172.155.42 (talk) 20:27, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

The problem is that your contribution consists primarily of adding multiple links to the same site, and when you do that you are considered a spammer, regardless of the merits of the links. Any time a mass addition of external links is detected, they are (or should be) treated as spam and removed. Wikipedia is not a mere repository of links, no matter how appropriate. It's an attempt to create a collaborative encyclopedia, the content of which is produced by continuous discussions and negotiations among contributing editors. If you wish to see the links re-added, follow the instructions in the first message above: Propose each link on the affected article's Talk page. If there is a consensus for adding the link, or if no one objects after a reasonable amount of time, you can add the link to the article. In your edit summary when you re-add the link, mention the proposal/discussion on the Talk page so that other editors will be able to see that the link is not spam. --ShelfSkewed Talk 20:19, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Ahhh...that makes more sense. Again, we didn't mean to cause offense (or commit an offense). Per your instruction, we'll propose the external links on the subject discussion page. Again, apologies if we ruffle any feathers... and thanks for educating us on the issue.128.172.155.42 (talk) 20:27, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 20:10, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
