Talk:Æsahættr
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Could anyone help and add a pronounciation for it? I for one would be helpful for this feature, Just in brackets after it (pron. --)
- I'm not sure, but I think it would be /'æ.sɑ.hæ.təɹ/ (EH-saw-HEH-ter); I don't know which language it translates from. --...Wikiwøw 22:44, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- Actually, I just found it on His Dark Materials terminology. Apparently, it's /ˈæs.hæ.tə/ (AS-hatter). I'll add it to the article. --...Wikiwøw 22:51, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Name
Shouldn't this page be titled "the subtle knife"? Because A) It's called Aesahaettr like 5 times in the book, B) The book is titled "the subtle knife" and C) Aesahaettr is fairly unpronounceable and looks like the author just jumbled together as many letters as he could think of while still making it unpronounceable 68.144.208.212 19:36, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
- No, "the subtle knife", apart from being the title of the book, is more like an epithet to the actual object. The knife's name is Æsahættr, and thus should be the title of the article. And furthermore, "Æsahættr" is not that unpronounceable (see above), all the sounds occur commonly in modern English; and it is not just a jumble of letters. More than likely there's an etymology behind it. --...Wikiwøw 00:57, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
