Åkrehamn

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Åkrehamn  or Åkrahamn (commonly known as Åkra) is a town on the island of Karmøy in Norway. Nearby cities: Haugesund, Kopervik and Skudeneshavn.

Åkra gained town status in 2002, and it is part of the municipality of Karmøy in the county of Rogaland.

Since it gained town status, Åkra has blossomed. The good economy of Norway has brought capital and investments to Åkra, and in the last couple of years, the town has been expanded. Apartments and houses have been built and new fields of industry has been introduced. Traditionally Kopervik has been the "centre" of Karmøy, but the way that Åkra is growing, this seems to be changing.

There is also a cultural side to Åkra. A band called Busserulls, which is known to some parts of the country, was founded by musicians from Åkra. Their vocalist through many years, who called himself Pirion, was a sort of a local celeberty [sic] , or town mascot. There is also a hot-dog stand in this town that have been around for decades, it is simply called "Kanutta". This stand and its food has become quite famous in the surrounding districts, and a phrase used by the woman who owned the stand, "one withe evereything [sic] ?" ("ei'me robbel å rakje?") has become a local catch-phrase.
