From the Sigurd Portal, a 12th-century carved wood entrance, of the medieval Hylestad Stav Church, in Setesdal, Norway.

Note the Norse hero Sigurðr (left) is a human, but his adopted father Reginn (right) is a dwarf, who he kills: Norse dwarves or 'dvergar' are fully human in size.
