[edit] Non sequitur?

This sentence appears in the 2nd paragraph:

On January 25 the following year, despite the stated Japanese military doctrine that to be taken prisoner meant ultimate disgrace for a soldier and his family, he was captured by American forces in the Philippine defeat and sent to a prisoner of war camp on Leyte Island.

I think this sounds like the stated Japanese military doctrine should have prevented the Americans from taking him prisoner. Anyone else think so? Z Wylld 21:06, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
