Jane Frank (Jane Schenthal Frank): "Crags and Crevices"(1961): oil and spackle on canvas, 70 inches by 50 inches. This was the principal work in Jane Frank's solo exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in 1962.

Low resolution, much-reduced, slightly cropped photo of full-page plate in "The Sculptural Landscape of Jane Frank" by Phoebe B. Stanton (1968, South Brunswick and New York: A. S. Barnes and Company, 120 pp.).

Fair use rationale: this is a low-resolution, reduced photo of a plate reproduction from a book that is long out of print, and it is clearly here substantively necessary for discussion of this artist's style, of the technique of impasto, and of the abstract expressionist movement (especially since currently the abstract expresionism article lacks even a single sample image of a work in the style). This can in no way infringe on the copyright of the author (Phoebe Stanton, d. 2003), nor can it do anything but enhance the commercial prospects for sale of the book and of the art itself. Furthermore, there was no image of this work to be found (outside of Wikipedia) on the internet, so it was not possible merely to provide readers with a link to it.

  1. This is a historically significant work that could not be conveyed in words.
  2. Inclusion is for information, education and analysis only.
  3. Its inclusion in the article(s) adds significantly to the article(s) because it shows the subject, or the work of the subject, of the article(s).
  4. The image is a low resolution copy of the original work and would be unlikely to impact sales of prints or be usable as a desktop backdrop.
