AWM Caption: BATHURST CLASS MINESWEEPER/CORVETTE HMAS KATOOMBA. COMPLETED IN DECEMBER 1941 KATOOMBA SAW ACTION IN THE DARWIN AREA AND WAS HOLED IN A COLLISION WITH THE AMERICAN OILER PECOS IN JANUARY 1942. AFTER REPAIRS SHE SAW FURTHER ACTION IN NEW GUINEA WATERS AND ON CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES SPENT SOME TIME IN NEI, AUSTRALIAN COASTAL AND NEW GUINEA-SOLOMONS WATERS. KATOOMBA PAID OFF IN 1948 AND IN MAY 1957 WAS SOLD AS SCRAP TO HONG KONG ROLLING MILLS LTD.
